THE TILE WORKSHOP - ATELIER - AZULEJARIA - Rio de Janeiro

ORIGIN

The Tile Workshop has its roots on the project 'The Way to the Human Rights, conceived by the Association Inscrire, directed by the artist Françoise Schein.

In Brazil the project has promoted social transformation in the communities in which it took place since 1999 by creating an artistic awareness in the local population.

They work with various partners and, in 10 years, have implemented more than 30 projects with the participation of over 500 people.

Some of these people, mostly craftwomen, became part of the regular team. They have gained experience in many fields through training, learning, and creating. Over time, they have become educators themselves transmitting their knowledge to others: to children, youngsters and adults at their workshop.

Financially they became independant by selling products that they manufacture.

DON'T HESITATE TO CONTACT THEM AND PARTICIPATE

In 2009, one can say that this work has contribute to a sustainable  urban developpement. The strenght of this work is to enable people involved to acheive a greater knowledge of their own cultural environment and therefore creating for themselves, a sense of citizenship : to acquire skills, to create,  to sell, to be seen, to be recognized as a professional is to gained dignity.

For 10 years all the work produced by The Tile Worshop has always been respected and never been  attacked by graffitis.

Their work has been exhibited in several Museum in Brazil and in Europe. The and television press has recognize their qualities.
