RIO DE JANEIRO'S FAVELAS PROJECTS
How has ceramic become a tool for Human Rights dissemination and a catalyst for social changes ?

Artistic, social and sustainable Human Rights urban projects
This project has been conceived as a series human rights walls built in underpriviledged quarters of Rio de Janeiro named « Favelas ». Made with the participation of the inhabitants of these neighborhoods, each projects is produced with a double goal : to teach the craft of painting onto ceramics while offering art history bases. They express the local history and culture. Soon after their production, the panels are applied onto public or private walls.

In 2009, more than 30 projects have been produced all of them with the participation of inhabitants, youngsters, children, elderly and regular population.
Started by the Association Inscrire’s impulse in 1999, the local participants have quickly expressed the wish to continue on their own and created another entity that they called “The Tile Workshop” which, since then, has become Inscrire’s partners for new projects. |
Through the experience acquired while making the early projects, the participants became autonomous and succeeded into becoming partners with Inscrire’s futur’s projects. |
