How has ceramic become a tool for Human Rights dissemination and a catalyst for social changes ?

Artistic, social and sustainable Human Rights urban projects
This project has been conceived as a series human rights walls built in underpriviledged quarters of Rio de Janeiro named « Favelas ». Made with the participation of the inhabitants of these neighborhoods, each projects is produced with a double goal : to teach the craft of painting onto ceramics while offering art history bases. They express the local history and culture. Soon after their production, the panels are applied onto public or private walls.
|
In 2011, more than 30 projects have been produced all of them with the participation of inhabitants, youngsters, children, elderly and regular population.
Started by the Association Inscrire’s impulse in 1999, in 2003, Carioca arquitect Laura Taves created the Tiles Workshop - Azulejaria to perpetuate this typology of social and artistic works with some of the participants of the earlier projects who had expressed the wish to continue learning and creating. Since then, this new entity has become Inscrire’s partner in Brazil. |

Laura Taves gathered the women artisans and formed a new group who soon after, has gained recognition and new projects of its own. The Tilles Workshop is our favorite patrner! |
