Station Universitetet, Stockholm


In Stockholm we used the life and work of the swedish botanist Carl von Linné has the starting point for the development of the concept of learning and its connection to democracy. His voyage in Lapony becomes a metaphors towards a wider consciousness of global ecological realities.



 



There are 2 very long panels along both train rails ( 180m x 2,20m). There are also 16 panels about Linné‘s travels

( 15m x 2,5m ).

The project was produced in Portugal in azulejos and took 2 years to create.


There are more than 150 different symbols used into the station. They serve as an alphabeth to tell the stories elaborated on the panels.

It was while producing this project for the Stockholm subway, that artist F schein understood the pedagogical capacity of such project within its production metods, that later would translate into participatory artwork with schools youngsters and underpriviledged neighborhood inhabitants: see Brasil favelas projects

The station is located at the City University, and is much visited on a daily basis by the students. Teachers with class of younger children come and visit the station as a new educational ‘underground book‘
