Je vous invite à la maison: Artistic Project in Liège with Françoise Schein
The association Inscrire, in collaboration with Françoise Schein and the association Interra, is proposing an ambitious artistic and community project for the city of Liège. This project aims to create strong bonds within the Liège population through a participatory artwork and a unique public event.
An Artwork with the Inhabitants of Liège: A Culinary Geography
Françoise Schein invites the inhabitants of Liège to participate in the creation of four large fabric tablecloths, forming a collective work 8 meters long. This work will develop around two main themes:
- Cartographic Imagination: The tablecloths will be adorned with a blue flow following the geographical basin of the Meuse, traversing France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Participants will be invited to paint real and imaginary landscapes, urban and rural, creating a blend of maps, figures, spaces, and texts.
- Culinary Theme: The tablecloths will also incorporate wavy texts representing recipes invented during culinary workshops organized by the association Interra. These texts will follow the curves of the rivers, creating a link between the flows of water and local and distant flavors.
Together, these elements will form an abstract and figurative landscape, created by 64 hands of participants adding to those of Françoise Schein.
A Large Tablecloth on a Large Table in an Imaginary House
Once the tablecloths are created, they will be placed in the “dining room” of Françoise Schein’s imaginary house, drawn in white lines on the ground of Place Xavier Neujean. This giant plan will also include a painted garden, transforming the square into a welcoming ephemeral house.
This installation will serve as the setting for an artistic and festive performance, mixing music, costumes, and gastronomy, to celebrate meeting and sharing.
Invitation to the Community
This project is an invitation to all the inhabitants of Liège to participate in a collective artistic adventure, creating bonds and celebrating communal living. By inventing and painting this imaginary house, Françoise Schein aims to offer a space of welcome and meeting, reflecting the desire of many migrants to find a home.
